Acaya Open

Coming into the tournament I had a couple of weeks off at home to practice and get my game back into shape after the last run of events. I had put in plenty of work especially with the putter which was the weakest part of my game in the previous weeks. After seeing my coach we worked on a little something to try and make every swing more consistent. The work I had put in felt great and I know that I am moving forward with my game even if it takes a few weeks for everything to come into place.

Day One:

I got off to a poor start once again and after a couple of loose tee shots I found myself +2 after 6 holes. I then lost a ball down my 9th hole and managed to make birdie with my second ball to limit the damage to a bogey. Once again I found myself at +3 after 9 and miles off the lead or contention. I need to sort this out in order to take some pressure off myself. I bogeyed my 11th but then from here I put together some good golf and managed to pick up a couple of shots. I finished the round at +2 and I couldn’t be too disappointed with this as I hit the ball poorly. I putted well which I was very pleased about and it is nice to see the hard work paying off in that aspect. I went to the range after the round and work on a couple of things that me and Ryan had discussed. It felt like everything was moving in the right direction after this and I was ready for the second day.

Day Two:

I got off to a good start by birding the first but then went onto bogey the 2nd and 4th putting me at +1. I managed to birdie 6 and 7 but then lost my ball on the par 5 9th. I made a birdie off the second ball. I was level after 9 and felt relatively comfortable. I struggled off the tee from the 9th onwards after I hit one left I couldn’t stop myself from doing this and this left me not being able to get the ball in play. I hit 2 in the water on the 11th and my tee shot on 12 in the water. This led to a double bogey, double bogey run on these holes and +4 for the round. I managed to birdie 14 and knew I needed to pick up another to make the cut. I gave it my best shot and hit some decent shots coming in. On the par 3 17th I hit my tee shot to 7 feet and after hitting a great putt it unfortunately lipped out. I then parred the last to miss the cut by 1. I fought hard down the stretch and felt like I deserved more than I got. To be completely honest I didn’t feel very comfortable off the tee this week and it really cost me as I had 6 penalty shots on the week.

Golf is a game full of fine margins and I was no where near good enough today or yesterday! This is the worst tee to green I have been all year and it is straight back to the drawing board after this. Simply not good enough. You can’t play well every week and I am looking forward to getting home and putting in the hours to make things right. I have a couple of open qualifying events to focus on now and I look forward to giving these my best shot.

Many Thanks

Jack
