After a disappointing week last week I was more than ready to get back at it and prove to myself that I am a better player than I have been performing. I played well enough last week but just couldn’t get any momentum going or hole any putts.
This weeks course is a really good one. It is treelined and requires good shots off the tee. It requires you to hit the ball both ways off the tee and is a good test. Having said this if you can get the ball in play off the tee it does offer you a lot of opportunities for birdie. I really like the course this week and it reminds me a lot of courses back at home.
Day One:
I got off to a poor start once again and was a little frustrated with myself. I dropped one early and then gave myself numerous opportunities but couldn’t convert them before bogeying the 18th, my 9th hole. I then dropped another at the 2nd, my 11th hole which put me to +3. Coming off this green I was extremely frustrated but knew that I was hitting it good enough to turn it around. I stayed patient and ended up making a few birdies before finishing the round at +1. Not the best start but by no means out of it. I just need to go low tomorrow.
Day Two:
I knew how well I was playing and just had to stay patient today and my chances would come. Once again I started off poor and was +1 through 4 holes which left me way off the pace! I made a birdie shortly after and was level par after 9 holes. I knew I still needed a few birdies in order to get myself back into the tournament and make the cut. I started the back nine with back to back birdies and was giving myself chance after chance. I made a silly bogey on 13 but managed to birdie 16 and give myself a good opportunity on 17 but couldn’t convert it. A really solid day today leading to a 68 (-2). This left me at -1 total and making the cut comfortably in the end. The cut fell at +1 and the leader at -10. A big round for me tomorrow and I truly feel like a low number is around the corner with how well I am playing. If I can start holing some putts then I can see myself shooting in the low 60’s tomorrow!
Day Three:
After a good warm up and range session I felt ready to go. Hit a great tee shot off 10, my first hole and didn’t take advantage of it and made par on the par 5 with a 5 iron in my hand for my second shot. This set the tone for the day and I could never get anything going. This was the worst I hit the ball over the past three weeks and was holding on to a score around par for a while. Unfortunately on the back nine I hit one out of bounds on the par 5 and made a bogey. I then followed this with two more and from nowhere I found myself at +4. I gave myself a few looks coming in and managed to birdie 9 my last hole. A frustrating round of +3 to finish +2 total and drop down the leaderboard. A frustrating tournament and day today but that’s just golf! I wasn’t at the races today and could never get anything going. Just not sharp enough around the greens unfortunately.
The past three weeks have been a lot of fun and it’s all good experience being on the road. I am now ready for home and a couple of days off before going again. I am taking a week off and will be back playing on the Alps Tour in the middle of June. I now know what I need to sharpen up on and I know that I am not far away from some very good golf and posting some low numbers. I am looking forward to spending some time at home and look forward to catching up with a lot of you. Once again thanks for all the support
